Diabetes Awareness Diabetes is listed as number seven in leading causes of death in the US. As of 2018, 34.2 million Americans, or 10.5% of the population, had diabetes. Over 26 million were diagnosed, and more than 7 million were undiagnosed.
Diabetes is a chronic disease. There are several types. In type 1 Diabetes the body does not produce insulin, which is needed to get glucose into the cells of the body via the bloodstream. This usually requires insulin therapy. In type 2 Diabetes the body does not properly use insulin.
Some experience no symptoms, others may have symptoms and other complications.
Good news is that research shows that by increasing physical activity, making some changes to what and how you eat, and getting treatment early may help blood sugar levels return to a normal. Other research show that Diabetes can be managed with a healthy diet and exercise.
So get that check up with your doctor and get tested.
