Herbal Tea

Herbal “teas” aren’t really tea.

It’s really a tisane which is an infusion (or blend) of water and a variety of different herbs, spices, fruit, dried flowers and plants. Mint, ginger, chamomile, hibiscus, and Echinacea are just a few. Some have been said to provide health benefits and have been used for many years as natural remedies.

Hibiscus “tea” is made from dried calyces (part of the plant that protects the bloom). It is said to contain calcium, potassium, magnesium and other minerals. Can provide antioxidant, antiviral and cardiovascular benefits like helping to decreases bad LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Some studies have shown that hibiscus “tea” may help lower blood pressure. Avoid those with additives and sugar.

Please use in moderation, do not use instead of medical treatment, as herbal “teas” may pose a risk to those with health issues. Avoid if you take diuretic medication and may also interfere with aspirin.

So whether hot, or cold enjoy a cup or glass of tea in celebration of National Tea Day.
