January Blues

Feeling blue

Feeling a little blue. January is said to be the most melancholy time of the year.  Is it post-holidays blues? Beginning of the winter blue? Could it be the weather? Realizing how much money you have spent over the winter holidays? We can all go a bit overboard occasionally during the holidays. Are you recovering from year-end at work. Exhausted from hosting holiday events, or traveling. Feels like a week off is hardly enough.

Here are a few self-care tips:
Listen to what your body (and mind) needs, we know when we feel overloaded.
Give yourself some alone time, I know this one is a challenge, especially if you have children.
Eating healthy is critical during times of increased mental stress.
Exercise, dance, or take a walk.
Get some sleep, grab a quick nap or two if needed.
Stay connected to family and friends.
Do something fun – learn something new, read, sing, watch a favorite movie or show, etc.
Take some time to acknowledge the good.
Reach out to a mental health care professional. Sometimes we need a little guidance.

Being active, eating healthy, and getting enough rest all help us manage stress and anxiety.
