The Monte Cristo sandwich was created in 1910, and it first appeared on the menu of a Paris Café. It originated in France, as a variation of the French Croque Monsieur. The Monte Cristo name came from a French Novel. It is known for layers of Swiss cheese, ham or turkey. Which is then dipped into an egg mixture and pan fried until golden brown.
