Let’s celebrate National Popcorn Day with this buttered and salted, sweet, savory, spicy or plain (healthy) snack. Whether at a Movie Theater, sports event, concert, gathering, or at home anyone can enjoy this whole grain that fluffs with heat and air. Did you know that plain popcorn has no saturated or trans fats and it contains an antioxidant called phenolic acids? Some say plain popcorn can help improve gastrointestinal health. Also, microwaved or stovetop it’s high in fiber.
Recently, I stopped tossing a bag in the microwave and started making stovetop popcorn. I’ve experimented with different oils like vegetable, corn, and grapeseed oil (happened to have in the cabinet) all tasted about the same. After some research I’ve found that peanut and avocado oils have high or moderately high smoke points and are good for high heat, can’t wait to try them too. Whatever your preference grab a bag or a bowl and enjoy.
Yay for National Popcorn Day!
