Spring Cleaning Tips

Welcome spring and shake off those winter blues by giving your home a fresh, clean start for spring.

March is my favorite time for spring cleaning. The weather is starting to get warm enough to open windows and doors, but not warm enough for insects. Let that warm breeze carry all that winter dust right out of your home. Did you know that spring cleaning offers a few health benefits? It helps to remove allergens and dust, gets you moving around your home (it can be a workout), helps you get organized, and reminds you to get rid of or donate stuff. We all have a bag or box of clothes marked donate sitting in our closet or in another space in our home.

Okay, I know we are all busy, but why not tackle one room over a weekend or one room on a day during the week or weekend. Try dividing your tasks into small chunks, and add in a few breaks with a little reward, this should help if you start feeling overwhelmed. Now that you have a plan, let’s start gathering your cleaning tools.

Spring cleaning tools checklist:

All-purpose cleaner

Window cleaner

There are some great eco-friendly cleaners on the market.

Spray bottle

Spray bottles
Make your own diy cleaning liquid.

Baking soda
Note: never mix baking soda with hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, chlorine bleach, chemical cleaners, alcohol, or any other cleaning agents.

Spring cleaning tools

Rubber gloves

Sponges
I usually use eco friendly or no dye sponges.

Microfiber cloths or dusting cloths

Broom and dust pan

Broom and dustpan

Mop and bucket
I really like the spinning mop and bucket, less bending and no need to wring out water.

Garbage bags
Consider including recycling bags.

Bonus Tip: If you wear a mask while cleaning it will help to avoid breathing in dust.

Now that you have your plan and cleaning tools, put on your favorite playlist or podcast. Turn on your fan, or set your air conditioner to fan this will keep the dust moving until you are ready to vacuum or mop.

You are now ready to tackle each room in your home. Living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom. Be sure to clean those baseboards, ceiling fixtures, window sills and screens, doors, and walls. Vacuum and clean vents. Wash your spring towels, linens, quilts, and blankets. And remember to check the cleaning instructions for your window treatments. Years ago, I ruined a great set of curtains by throwing them in the wash when they were suppose to be dry cleaned, expensive lesson learned.

Enjoy your refreshed home.
