Winter solstice is the beginning of winter. This day has the fewest hours of sunlight and longest hours of night. During this time the Sun’s is tilted away, its path across the sky is at its lowest and Sun rays on the equator appears to stand still.
Solstice” is based on the Latin sol, meaning “Sun,” and sistere, meaning “stand still.”
