As kids prepare to head Back to School, it’s a busy time of activities, shopping for school supplies, and scheduling. Between homework, after-school activities, and getting out the door on time, it’s easy to get stressed. But I’ve got some fun and easy ways to de-stress during this busy time.
Easy Back to School De-Stress Tips.
Make a Family Schedule
Creating a family calendar can be fun. This will keep you organized, provides kids with visual reminders, and helps to avoid scrambling at the last-minute.
Homework
Set up a cozy homework space with comfy seating and fun supplies. Create a weekly “homework fun fact” session, where everyone shares a fun fact they learned that week!
You Time
Grab five minutes a day for yourself. Enjoy your morning coffee in peace, practicing deep breathing, or writing in a journal, these few minutes can help lower stress.
Cooking with Kids
Meal prepping can be fun. Get the kids involved in the kitchen. Pick a new recipe to try out every week (or every other week). This makes the weeknight dinner rush a bit easier, and it’s great for family bonding.
Cool Down Time
Once the kids are home, set a regular “cool down time.” A quiet time where everyone can unwind with reading, coloring, or just relaxing (no tv, or electronic devices). This helps everyone transition from the school day to home. It gives you a little breather too.
Playdates and Parent Time
Try coordinating with other parents for playdates. This gives you some parent time while the kids entertain themselves. Be sure to set up least one monthly “Parent Time” get together where you can catch up. This is a great way for busy parents to share and support each other.
Move It
Exercise is a great to reduce stress. Include family walks, bike rides, or even dance parties in your living room into your weekly routine. This will improve the mood and make you feeling energized.
Tech Free Time
With all the Back to School emails and notices, it’s easy to get lost in screen time. Create “tech-free” time in your home to help encourage conversation and connection. You can share stories about your day. Work on a puzzle together. Or have a few laughs over family game night.
Gratitude
Take a few minutes each week to write down things you’re grateful for as a family and put them into a box. This helps everyone focus on the positive.
Movie Night
Have a family movie night with fun films or family favorites. Laughter can change the mood and turn stressful moments into great memories.
Back to School stress relief is key. By using a few of these tips, you can make this transition smooth, fun, and less stressful for the whole family!
